I’m not 100% sure what Prime Minister Johnson and his followers thought was going to happen, but all signs seem to point to economic depletion at the hands of this genius idea. It reminds me of the story of the flower shop owner who was forced out of business because his imported flowers sit in customs for a few days and waste away whereas he used to have instantaneous imports. I hope Equity is able to convince the prime minister and parliament, but this is in no way surprising. They make a good point about how they’re being hit while they’re already down in the midst of this terrible pandemic. Because other artists can travel to the UK for extended periods of time, british artists are going to lose out on all sorts of inter-country art. The same will probably be true for other fields like science, forcing british heavy-weights to work by themselves and be left out of other advancements made in the union.

This was very foreshadowed from the beginning of the Brexit. The whole point of the brexit was because ignorant people wanted to take away immigrant jobs in Britain in order to provide that to the British people, who have a high unemployment rate. However, they failed to realize that those immigrants are who support a lot of the lower paying jobs, and a huge part of their foundational economy was kicked out. This was especially a bummer for not just artists, but anyone who lived in England but held jobs in other countries of the UN. For many centuries, Europe has been such a flourishing center for the arts, and it is such a bummer and disappointment that there is now such a huge restriction on artists to travel freely around Europe and continue their work. I hope that Boris Johnson and the people who supported the Brexit are realizing their ignorance and stupidity now, and are suffering their consequences.
