This is a cool example of de-centralizing decision making that is going on right now and put power in the artist’s hands. I love that the Director’s council, which seems to be like a rebuilding team is a team. I worry as some theatres come back, they won’t be able to afford/have the number of people to know to create a team. I think this is great because many brains eventually lead to great ideas and we need to get to great and innovative ideas. From MTC creating a new Artistic Advisor to other companies making people co-artistic directors, this is a great step in destroying (what I think) is harmful overly centralized power. It is also very nice to see a company putting power back into the artists. This is a constant arts management struggle that I love seeing addressed in this way. Scrolling through the bios, it is great seeing them include people’s pronouns (a simple step to show organizations are trying to make sure people are addressed how they should be addressed). Also, it is nice seeing that these directors from all walks of entertainment. I wonder how comfortable each of them feels genuinely speaking their mind. I am not experienced enough to know who actually holds industrial clout and I wonder how this committee is structured to allow for everyone’s voice to be heard equally.
