Ridgid 18V SubCompact 1/2-inch Impact Wrench R87028B

PTR: Ridgid continues to expand its line of SubCompact tools, adding a 1/2-inch impact wrench to the mix. As part of that line, the Ridgid 18V SubCompact 1/2-inch impact wrench (R87028B) brings a key tool for auto mechanics. Our in-house Pros perked up when they heard about this new addition.

It seems that more and more, companies are producing these smaller than usual impact wrenches that are producing just as much, if not more, than many full size ones. That being said, I'm not sure this Ridgid model can be called low profile. While the head itself seems pretty small, the battery kills it. Unless you are reaching for something very shallow, that battery kill you being able to reach that anywhere far. Looking at competing brands like Milwaukee's Stubby 12 volt impact, the Rigid us both larger and less break away torque, by about 25 foot pounds. Also looking at the Milwaukee's newest right angle, low profile impact, you see a similar idea. I think if Ridgid really wants to get into this market, they are going to have to find a way to do it with a smaller battery. Or, they may be able to find a way to rotate the battery keeping it as slim as possible in one direction.
