Good for her, for putting human rights over money. So many performers don’t think about where they perform plays into politics and humanitarian rights. One of my favorite examples is the music festival Coachella. The CEO of Coachella is a huge supporter of anti-LGBT+ organizations, and I am always dissapointed in the performers and festival goers who haven’t educated themseves in what they are giving their money to. It is disheartening that people like Beyonce and Ariana Grande, who are socially involved and activists when it comes to other topics, give performances at Coachella and are therefore giving their support to the anti-LGBT organizations CEO Anshutz gives copius amounts of money to. Most people who attend these festivals are in a position of privilege where the consequences of where their money goes is not in their direct concern. I hope in these next years, more performers like Nicki Minaj will make the effort to use their platform in favor of human rights and equality.
