“Pipeline” at City Theatre
The Pittsburgh Tatler: In 2007, the first year I lived in Pittsburgh, my two children attended Pittsburgh Minadeo Elementary School in Squirrel Hill. My youngest was in kindergarten that year, and – for reasons I no longer remember – one morning during the first week of school I was sitting in the hallway outside of her classroom waiting to meet with her teacher. As I sat there, I could hear another teacher in a hallway around the corner, leading a line of students and haranguing one of kids in her charge.

People tend to ovdr look young children and their emotions- even teenagers. But the thing about children is that they don’t know how to mask emotion quite yet, so why would they lying about being sad or embarrassed? Another thing that I personally relate to, is people not understanding the weight of their words, especially with little children. Not many understanding the impact that their words could have on a child. Although, typically they are known to not listen to anything, when it comes to feelings it's a different story because kids don’t know how to not be vulnerable. I think this story line is a rare and important one to perform and discuss. I feel like not many people normally find themselves gravitating towards a plot such as this because it could be difficult to comprehend the depth of emotions that children feel. The worst part about children’s feelings is that they don’t know how to process it or what that means for them in that standing to them in that standing time period.
