Off-Broadway Smash-Hit PUFFS to Be Shown in Movie Theaters Nationwide

www.broadwayworld.com: The highly acclaimed and rollicking hit comedy is about to get the big-screen treatment when "Puffs: Filmed Live Off Broadway" comes to U.S. cinemas for a two-day event this May. For seven years, a certain boy wizard went to wizard school. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of The Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.

Harry potter has set an extraordinary footprint on both the theatrical world and the rest of the world itself. With new plays and movie like Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it's impossible to ignore that Harry Potter is still relevant even after the series ended like six years ago. I think that a musical about the extraordinary lives of Hufflepuffs is the exact form of satire that should be appreciated in the world. Even if I am a clear slytherin, I can respect a musical about Hufflepuffs because it highlights an under looked group within the Harry Potter series. I hope that this musical has some actual speed to it and doesn't just die out, Harry Potter is great series and I would hate for this musical or others to be a total flop and ruin all of the work and effort that J.K Rowling has put into creating the wizarding world.

I am always interested to see what shows are shown in movie theatres and what shows through very popular never get televised or shown in a movie theatre. I’m very glad to see it in going into Movie Theatres instead of just being televised because I think this allows for the magic of a night of theatre to be conveyed still. My one issue when shows that are released online or on TV is the audience is watching the show in a form that wasn’t intended by the viewer. This can change things as simple as someone not noticing all the set dressing or miss a feeling a person can only get in theatres. For accessible it makes more sense to release shows on TV and in Movie Theaters but it also loses the magic of live theatre. When shows are recorded, I wonder how it affects the performance that they are recorded at. Do the cameras get in the actor’s way or do the cameras block audience views. I know financially it makes sense for PUFFS to record performances but does it artistically and for audience members at the filming make sense to film the show without an audience member? I am glad to see that the producers listened to the fans who were demanding for this show to be turned into a live recording that is released in theatres but I wonder why the producers launched it in movie form and on tour? Also, I wonder how the actors get paid with PUFFS being shown in movie theatres.

This show seems to be a real hit. I first heard of this show last summer as I was doing a show in the same theater. One cool thing is that my friend who worked on the show with me got hired onto PUFFs after our show closed and seems to be really enjoying the show. Most things that are harry potter seem to take off. This defiantly has taken off. I think I remember reading an article back in December that it broke house records at New World Stages or made a lot of money? I am really likening the fact that more and more shows are being filmed. This gives the show and audience throughout the world instead of just the 400ish people they can get into the theatre in one night. I do wonder if this hurts or helps ticket sales. With more and more shows being taped I wonder if someone has done the data analysis to see what ticket sales are like. I can not wait to see this in the movie theatre this may!

I love seeing passion projects like this made by huge fans of Harry Potter, and this one being so successful is super amazing! The world of Harry Potter is so vibrant and varied but so little is touched on in the books, so even seeing something like this that follows the same plots with a different perspective seems like a fascinating production to watch. I actually had never heard of Puffs - I'v only heard tell of the internet's favorite Harry Potter show, A Very Potter Musical - but it sounds like something I not only would want to watch but that would lead to a lot more in the future. It's a shame this production, which seems like such a huge deal, hasn't been more talked about in the Harry Potter and theater fandoms alike. Especially by using characters viewed with such fondness as the often ignored Hufflepuffs, I would expect this to be more popular and well known than it is.
