CLO’s ‘Annie’ still charms
TribLIVE: For a 35-year-old musical “Annie” still knows how to kick up its heels and charm an audience.
Or maybe the credit should go to Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera’s cast and creative team for knowing how to mine the show’s heart and spirit without descending into syrupy cuteness.

Well this review was fair and I now I ripped apart Annie before, but I feel as though this article is too nice for the actually debut of the show. "Annie" to anyone else would have looked fabulous with its cast and pretty sets. The lighting and sound were atrocious. And the overall production was a bit shabby. They put pretty actors on a 4-hour tech stage where very little looked out together. The article was right in that it marketed it to kids because I feel as though kids are the only ones who wouldnt pick up on the unprofessional tech that made up the show. I saw the show and was thoroughly impressed with Annie but I feel as though her debut was surrounded by a very unimpression set. If the tech hadn't been only 4 hours, I feel as though the show could have been a major hit and not just a show made for kids.
