Tonys decide eligibility

Variety: Hugh Dancy, Nina Arianda and Hunter Parrish are among the Broadway thesps eligible for a Tony nom in leading thesp races while scribe Peter Parnell is in the mix for a nom for book of a musical, according to the latest round of decisions issued by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. Tony organizers meet four times per season to consider kudo eligibility questions that arise outside of the standard, which generally slots above-the-title thesps into lead acting categories and below-the-title players into the pool for supporting.

I am glad that the Tony equivalent of The Academy is willing to adapt to changes in the theatre world by recognizing the level of involvement as a stipulation for potential nominees in each category. The examples they gave made perfect sense; Jesus would not be considered a supporting role in Godspell, but admittedly the actor was not billed above the title. However, I found the decision to nominate the book of "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" since it is technically a revival. It begs the question of where to draw the line. If it wins will there be controversy?
