Wearable Electronics Are Making a Statement
NYTimes.com: RHINESTONES, sequins and gold lamé can still add traditional glitter to evening wear. But if you really want to shine at your next dinner party, consider the sparkle that a jacket with light-emitting diodes or a corsage with fiber optics could provide.

To me, this seems like just a fancier way to be tacky. However maybe that will change with time and further design innovation. I also don't see this to be practical for an average person. Of course this technology can be designed to be aesthetically pleasing, but I think there's a long way to go. I'm not impressed by any current examples, like the handbags. Some future ideas seem cool. The concept mentioned in the article of video content on the back of a jacket at first seemed cool to me, but then also really wasteful and probably only useful for specific situations. I'm not sold on this.
I can't wait to see what the world of electronic wearables brings in the near future. There was a fashion group at Lunar Gala that had their designs centered around wearable interactive light system, and it was very neat. I like the idea of further developing the interactivity of the wearable electronics into things that react to outside sources of stimulus, such as GPS location based graphics and lights that are sensitive to motion in clothing
