Call for Artists/Makers/Technologists: RISING RUNWAY TECHNOLOGY FASHION SHOW
TECHBurgher: Rising Runway Show will be held on Saturday, May 19th, 2012. The theme is technology. Assemble – a community arts and tech space — is looking for two dynamic, wearable designs that work in dialogue with each other and the theme of technology. The two garments must show continuity within the design, whether they are cohesive, intentionally disconnected, and or playing off of one another. The garment must be classified as at least one of these three categories: fashion, wearable art, or Eco friendly.

This is strangely specific to a line that was just designed for Lunar Gala by two students here. ( http://www.kickstarter.com/profile/johnandalanna ) The trick in combining technology and fashion is that there's a very thin line between the two elements actually working together to enhance the final product and looking silly. That particular design that was just showcased had a lot of interesting conceptual ideas going on, so I think it really worked. It's interesting to see that this is a theme being picked up by all of Pittsburgh, and is not something that is just living inside of the technology-centered bubble of Carnegie Mellon.
