Most Popular Professional Nameplate Site: About.me

All about about.me from about.me on Vimeo.

lifehacker.com: Whether you want a website you can add to your email signature and be proud of or you're setting up a web-based business card for friends, family, and potential employers to use as a landing page to learn more about you, nameplate sites come in all shapes and sizes, both personal and professional.

I've heard of about.me but I didn't really know much about it. Last summer I went to make a web profile on wix.com - another free site of the same vein. Wix was recommended to me, but using it i was continually frustrated. It wasn't easy to work with and wasn't flexible. About.me looks like the same general format, but much more comprehensive and customizable. After the video, I'm still a bit unclear about how this would solve the problem of personal vs. professional sites, but I guess I also don't really understand why those two things would be combined anyway or why it's a problem.

This is cool. I would use about.me because I don't really want to have a website because I don't have enough information for it to really be worth my time. But I do want some where on the web that people can see who I really am and be directed to the correct links associated with me. People should not want to know more about me then that one page but this seems convenient because if they did it could send them anywhere. I kinda want one. Also good for business cards.

I think that this could be a very useful tool. It is sort of a mix between an online business card and resume. I would like to look further into this because it could be a good way to tell people who you are and what you’re all about without bombarding them with information. but if they want more it is simple for them to get more. It also seems to be user friendly.
