Female playwrights still face sexism – it's time we admitted it
guardian.co.uk: What would the playwriting landscape look like if all submissions to theatres were done anonymously, removing any question of gender bias? Or at least, when plays were sent out to be considered by reading committees, the title page was removed? Some theatres already operate in that way, most notably Liverpool's Playhouse and Everyman, where readers don't know whether the author is Alan Bennett or a first-time female playwright.

I think it would be interesting to see what shows would be chosen if all plays were submitted anonymously, and so those choosing didn't have to worry about bias, and so the authors of the works would know they were chosen on the basis of talent and not just to satisfy some sense of diversity. I wonder where the idea that women are worse playwrites came from, as I think of writing as a liberal art, and therefore further removed from the stereotypically masculine sciences.
