Of the five musicals my high school produced during my time there, three are on this list. So is the musical that they're producing this year.
I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. High school musicals are pretty tricky to produce because 1. there is much money to go around (if any) 2. the people involved in the production aren't necessarily all as interested in theatre as people who pursue theatre on a college or professional level 3. its hard to get real directors to want to direct a bunch of high school kids (see reason 2) 4. the production probably won't have professional musicians, if it has musicians at all, and 5. THERE ISN'T ANY MONEY TO GO AROUND.
For all these reasons, it takes a very particular kind of musical to be successful in a high school setting. They have to be very tried-and-true, accesible, and fun. At the college and professional level, theatre strives to do something spectacular and meaningful, but that's not the purpose of high school theatre. That's not a bad thing. High school theatre should be about having fun, getting kids to work together on a play, and learning some basic theatre skills. If high school theatre gets you into studying theatre in college or pursuing it professionally, that's great, but not necessarily.
