Interdisciplinary Drama
TheaterMania University - Feb 21, 2012: At Carnegie Mellon, I am a member of a college called "BXA." It's a degree program that allows students to pursue interdisciplinary studies - not just two majors, but really weaving disciplines together. One component is from the College of Fine Arts (mine is dramaturgy). The other could be nearly anything else (mine is history). I believe, and so does Carnegie Mellon, that interdisciplinary work is important, and that importance includes the theater.

I never really understood what BXA was, but this article really clears it up. Now I have to go find out if I can BXA drama and economics (probably not) and still graduate on time (almost certainly not). That would make for some interesting job interviews, though.
I definitely am in agreement with Carnegie Mellon's stance on interdisciplinary work. Apart from the obvious, if you put two things together and form something really rare, make something useful out of it, your career is going to be in high demand, because you'll be one of the few people that can do...whatever it is you can do with the merging of studies.
