Settlement for 'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark'

Variety: Producers of "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" and the legit helmers' union, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, have settled the lawsuit SDC brought against "Spider-Man" on behalf of director Julie Taymor. The settlement, resolving a dispute over unpaid helming royalties, will see producers paying Taymor the full coin due for her directing duties on the tuner. Still pending is a lawsuit Taymor brought against the "Spider-Man" producers in November over royalties related to her writing contributions as one of the co-creators of the musical.

We've been learning a lot about unions in Stage Management and Tech Management this year, so I was interested to see this real-life example of a union stepping-up and representing its members. I wonder if Taymor will receive the same respect on her own in her other lawsuit that the SDC received in this lawsuit. In this settlement, the court agreed that Taymor deserved to be compensated and acknowledge for her directing work, and the same should be said for her work on the book. That being said, I can't believe how much money Taymor is already getting! It's kind of insane. But I guess when you're a big-shot like her that's how things go. I'm anxious to see how the end of this Spider-man saga turns out.
