I am so super excited for season 2 of the 3 Body Problem. I thought that it was a super interesting show and I love watching dystopian and sci-fi television so it was so much fun. I have heard a lot of feedback from the fanbase of the book series that the television show is a pretty bad adaptation and does it kind of dirty, but as someone who has never read the books I quite enjoyed the tv show on its own. I thought it was a really interesting unique concept, a lot of fascinating cult and video game/artificial intelligence play and dialogue surrounding it, and enough interesting characters to care about all of the sub plots that were webbed. I hope season 2 is just as interesting and I am excited to see more of the franchise since I’m pretty sure it left off on a big cliff hanger.
I am actually so excited for this new season of Three Body Problem to come out. I absolutely loved the first season and I am so glad to hear that they are also already working on a third. What I found super interesting about this article was how it talked about filming locations and seasons two and three will be shot in Hungary because the country is offering up to a thirty percent reimbursement. Reading this article after the one about how Trump wants to put tariffs on movies also made me wonder about what impacts this could mean for American viewers, especially those who watch on streaming services. Maybe these incentives to film that Hungary is using to bring entertainment companies to film in their country is something that we should consider as the global market becomes more competitive. I also wonder how the possible tariffs would effect watching international movies on streaming services that also offer movies from the US.
I watched season one after reading all the books in the 3 Body Problem and I liked it. There are parts of a show that are almost always changed in its adaptation between mediums but I think this was a more truthful adaptation. It will be interesting to see how they deal with the second and third books of the series because they start to grow into an otherworldly science fiction future that is more difficult to show without CGI. The books warp reality through its use of virtual reality that is essentially another reality and the use of a “sophon” that can link two protons through quantum entanglement brings the reality of everyday earth to another level of fiction that is not easily replicated without CGI. It is nice to see the transparency in the production and to see an actual cost to produce a show at this scale.
The news about The 3 Body Problem returning for a second season on Netflix was exciting to read because it felt like a real commitment to finishing the story properly. I hate when shows with great ideas are canceled before they have a chance to grow, so hearing that production has started gave me hope. I like how this series mixes science, philosophy, and emotion in a way that feels larger than life but still human. The article made me realize how much thought and patience goes into making something this complex. It also reminded me of how audiences today want something deep and layered, not just a simple storyline. Knowing that they are filming two seasons together makes me believe the story will finally get the space it deserves. I cannot wait to see how they continue building this strange and beautiful world.
