Theatres, especially university theatres, continue to put on productions that other theatres have put on recently, either at the same time or back to back seasons. Planning a season is difficult and there are a lot of factors that go into that l=planning. Unfortunately, a lot of those factors plan around audience engagement and ticket sales. So when a new or popular show becomes available off Broadway or tour for licensing it is usually what drives season planning. There are a lot of other factors like the budget for production, production labor, performing venue, available actors, and mix of other season productions to round out a season. Most universities try to give all their students an opportunity on stage and backstage in larger roles. These planning decisions percolate up and down to larger and smaller productions houses and have shown up in Pittsburgh’s theatre houses.
