An inside look at Production Park’s Wakefield campus

TPi: In 2015, having been at TPi for three months, I found myself on the top of the Studio 001 staircase with Production Park founder, Lee Brooks, as he discussed his vision for this Northern campus. “We have a long-term master plan to bring a lot more space to the site,” stated Brooks. “We want people and companies to come here for the right reason – seeing not just short-term revenue but rather buying into the collaborative future of Production Park.” Walking around the site nearly a decade later, you could argue that the Park’s team has certainly achieved this goal.

This was a super cool article to read. I had not heard of Production Park at all before reading this article, and while I have heard generally about these entertainment tech facilities that are just filled with companies staging and making cool stuff, I have never seen an in-depth description of one which this article provided. It was really interesting to read about all of the different studios, the development and history of the studio spaces, and what the process of running a facility like this is. It was also super interesting to read about the development of a specific college and program dedicated specifically to live entertainment design and production. I was really intrigued by the description of the XPLOR department. I never really considered research in live entertainment technology to be a thing, so it was really interesting to read about how there is high-level secretive research happening at this facility.
