2025 Tony Awards eligibility rulings
GoldDerby: The Tony Awards Administration Committee met on Jan. 16 to assess the eligibility of 11 Broadway productions ahead of the 2025 Tony Awards. This is the second time that the committee has met to discuss the 2024-25 Broadway season. Many of these decisions simply confirm a performer’s assumed status as lead or featured, but some surprise category placements could drastically affect the upcoming Tony race.

I find the way in which the board decides these outcomes very interesting. It even mentioned that Cult of Love had been seen as early as 2018 yet that is being considered a new work and Eureka Day is not! I feel like a lot of shows and just performers in general are limited to such specific categories because of the academy's rules and I genuinely think people should be recognized regardless if the show or someone from the show has won an award or not. Obviously the revival category exists however there are some crazy talented people who definitely deserved some more recognition for their work, and I think having to originate a role in order to win is kinda stupid and not fair to people who work their ass off in order to get into this industry. I'm really excited to see the nominations when they drop in a few months and this year has been so competitive for shows I honestly think anything could happen!
