Watch: Documentary Details the History of the Tony Kiser Theatre
www.broadwayworld.com: As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Second Stage Theater will vacate the Tony Kiser Theatre at the end of this year. The company is begin let out of its lease at the venue, located in a former bank building at the corner of West 43rd Street and Eighth Avenue, due to high rent and "unfavorable" terms in the lease.

It kinda makes me a little sad to watch this space retire. Because I absolutely loved working in this space. Besides it lacking a load rail it was amazing walking into the building knowing that Costumes, Props, Scenery, Actors to the Box office are all working in the same building. It was a highly effective theatre that offered some really unique challenges like working with the “toaster” the hole in the floor to bring scenery up to stage level. To ripping sheets of plywood on the roof. It was the second theatre I ever worked in in NYC. It offered all of the unique aspects that made it an authentic NYC theatre. I am excited to see what Second Stage continues to produce and how the company will evolve now that it does not have its own dedicated Off-Broadway theatre. I just hope the city doesn't break down the building because doing theatre in an old bank is probably one of the best New York things out there.
