How Harlequin Floors Creates a Springboard for College Dancers

Dance Magazine: A lot goes into a successful dance career—drive, facility, and hours upon hours of training are just the beginning. The kind of floor on which a dancer spends those hours can make the difference between fearless dynamism and hesitancy, or even an injury-free season and one spent rehabilitating. For decades, Harlequin Floors has made it its mission to supply dance organizations with the best quality flooring so their artists can thrive.

Being a designer, there is a whole other side of theatre that I often don’t pay much attention to, however, the hours and work that the performers are putting in should not go unnoticed and supported. One of these ways is to make sure that they have all the tools and materials that make their process as easy as possible. Something that I don’t think of is the floor that is used in spaces for movement such as dance studios and stages. Because I don’t have to use the floors for dancing and movement, I don’t pay as much attention to their supportive or springy qualities that help dancers. Learning about the importance of good flooring will help me be a better advocate for performers while none of them are there. This kind of thinking is what makes entertainment such as a collaborative environment and benefits everyone througha chain reaction. In my work in the entertainment industry, I hope to learn more about the areas I don’t work in and how I can support them from my own position of influence.
