pantone picks mocha mousse as its color of the year 2025

www.designboom.com: Pantone announces its eagerly awaited Color of the Year 2025: PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a soft brown shade that embodies the warmth and indulgence of the simple pleasures in life. Inspired by the textures of cacao, chocolate, and coffee, this progression from last year’s Peach Fuzz signals an evolution in the wish for comfort, moving into a more grounded dimension.

I believe I had seen an article on a different color of the year, most likely a different brand, where it was purple instead of this brown. Thinking of the two though I think it would be interesting to see a collaboration with all the different color of the years. The purple and brown combination would be really nice to see as they were both more grounded colors. It would be interesting if every brand did not communicate beforehand just to see what random combinations would be created. Taking from Pantone, an exhibit where art of those separate colors would be showcased in a way to bring both hues together, would be really cool to experiment with. On Pantone’s showcase I really liked the pictures that were shown in this article. The flowy nature of the fabrics really captured the color and the evoked emotion of the color as well.

At first I was like how is there a whole article on a color Mocha Mousse, but after reading the article I’ve realized I have thoughts. I agree with the article it’s a comforting color because it’s neutral enough to be found in nature but also manufactured to look like a latte or milk chocolate mousse. I feel like another reason besides comfort that this color is the color of the year is due to the fact we’ve been in a beige-mom era. Right now, the popular choice to for interior home decoration is the beige-mom aesthetic where everything is in a shade of cream to mocha mousse basically. This color family is associated with calm, being clean, and honestly boring. While I’m not an advocate for the beige-mom aesthetic I can see why in these times of emerging from the pandemic, political turmoil, and social media causing anxiety in many why boring might be an appealing aesthetic. Mocha Mousse is like, hey there’s not much going on here but a soft serve chocolate swirl.
