Watch the Broadway performances from the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
www.broadwaynews.com: On Nov. 28, Macy’s celebrated its 98th annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. Broadcast on NBC and Peacock, the first hour of parade coverage featured performances from three currently running Broadway shows: “Hell’s Kitchen,” the 2024 Tony Award-winning Best Musical “The Outsiders” and the newly opened “Death Becomes Her.” Later in the parade, Idina Menzel sang from her upcoming musical, “Redwood,” atop a new Bronx Zoo float.

I have never actually watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade live on TV, and I honestly never paid it any mind. This changed a few years ago when I became a fan of SIX the Musical, and came across a video of the original cast performing one of the songs from the musical during the parade. I hadn’t realized before that moment that Broadway shows are included in the parade. Even though I am now aware of this, I still don’t watch it for a few reasons, one of which is the timing and length of the entire parade. However from a production standpoint, I do appreciate the magnificence of the parade and the hours upon hours of work that the various components must have taken. A lot of the things I am learning in my classes are directly related to the production of the parade, and someday my classmates and I may very well be involved in it.
