'Conclave' Production Design Built on Cinecitta's Sistine Chapel

www.indiewire.com: Tucked in a warehouse in the Cinecittá complex in Rome is something you’d otherwise need to pay 20€ to see in person: The largest film studio in Europe has a collection of painted flats that, when brought together, create a replica of the Sistine Chapel. For “Conclave” production designer Suzie Davies, however, replicating Vatican environments was never the end goal. It was only the beginning.

I have no idea what conclave is, if it’s a TV show or a movie or what, but I’m fascinated now and I need to watch it. I need to see how this feels on screen after being described in the article. That being said, as someone who has never been to the System Chapel, I do wonder what the effect is, knowing that the layout has been altered to an audience that has been to the Sistine chapel versus an audience that hasn’t. But then again doesn’t matter or is this just an alternate reality? Casa Santa Marta’s design is a fascinating. Specifically with the use of the fluorescent lights and the level dimension mentioned. The marble has a wonderful effect, that is talked about in greeting the grand shore of the location, but it also adds to their goal of making it feel like an insane asylum. The artistry made for this film is beautiful.
