One of the most upsetting things to hear about on film sets is unfortunate casualties caused by ill-practices and unfortunate, sometimes intentional circumstances created by using guns in film. Obviously, we still have no idea how a live gun even got into the hands of the actor, and there really is no way currently to prove whether or not the gun being loaded or shot or what have you was intentional. I personally like to think that the situation is very complex, considering that the actor behind the shooting was also a producer; why sabotage your own show, your own money, by bringing a real gun into a rehearsal space, if said action was intentional? It doesn’t make sense for Baldwin to intentionally allow for this, especially with the legacy he stands to abandon, and the money he could lose for this. Am I saying he is free of blame? Not at all. He is a producer, and had some hand in the hiring or funding of the props-master in this case, or had some kind of relation to a props person to get ahold of a “prop” gun in the first place, and there he takes a bit of responsibility. However, if it is true he had no idea the gun was live and loaded, it is still technically involuntary manslaughter; it all depends on how he is related to the gun getting on set as to whether or not he is directly to blame for the fatality.
