I feel like every other green page or theater related article I read is about how a school has shut down a production of a show due to controversial content. This content is often also LGBTQ related. I feel like for a lot of organizations Spelling Bee was the tipping point because of how heavily publicized it was in theater related news. I am honestly very impressed with the Dramatist Guild and the fact that they took action and are trying to help these kids whose school play has been canceled. Something that has come up whenever these cancellations are being discussed is how late these shows are being canceled. My high school had changed or canceled almost ½ a dozen shows while I was involved in the theater company but with the exception of two of those shows all of the changes were made before the process was underway which meant that less money was lost and there can still be a school play that year.
