I’ve heard of Broadway Bridges and respect programs that aim to expose theatre to young people who may not ever think of getting into it or those who especially may have difficulty affording to go to the theatre. However considering it’s a New York specific program I see it as cool way for students who live in the home state of Broadway to say they’ve been to a show. By this I mean in even in this CMU program there’s a weird barrier between classmates who’ve been to Broadway or Broadway level shows and those who have not. I can imagine in some cases living in NY makes this difference more a possible source of tension. As I usually wonder with these programs I always hope that programs attempts to reach as many communities as possible without favoring districts with levels of identities such as wealth or race.

I'm really glad that this program is a thing. In Hawai’i seeing good theater is somewhat inaccessible, Never mind getting to see a show on Broadway, or even a professionally done show/ traveling Broadway show. even just getting to see a traveling Broadway show is so much more difficult and expensive than it should be. Not only do I have to factor in the price of the insanely expensive ticket to see the actual show, but flight ticket prices, cost of Transportation after the flight, food, and sometimes even a hotel room are things that all must be taken into account when planning to see a show on O’ahu. Luckily, having the chance to see these shows isn't entirely common, so there's no feeling of social divide between those who have gotten to see a traveling show and those who have not. I'm so glad that students are able to have this opportunity to see shows right in NYC.
