I had no idea that over the weekend there was a whole 3 day long cabaret in time square and my only complaint about the event was that it wasn’t more publicized. Events such as Curtains Up help make not only Broadway but theater as a whole look more inviting and accessible as a whole. For years there have been barriers to entry in order to access theater and one of those barriers to entry is the price of tickets. Though money is necessary to keep the lights on it can keep audience members out who can not afford to see a show. Through free public concerts anyone can get a taste of what makes theater and certain shows such a cultural phenomenon and may be driven to see shows boosting ticket sales and revenue for shows or may be driven to join their local theater community. Overall events like Curtains Up unite and expand the theatrical community.
