The member spotlights in this article were incredibly cool to read. Especially with everything union members have gone through this year, and ever prevalent racism, an article shining lights on Black IATSE members is a great way to appreciate just some of the hardworking people that are making entertainment happen. Many of the featured members are in positions of union leadership, like Dejon Ellis Jr., who is Local 80’s business agent for grips, crafts services, set medics, and marines, and Belle Allen, Local 480s Diversity and Inclusion committee co-chair. Many more are integral parts of media I personally love, like Wilbur Graham Jr., the head carpenter at Longacre Theatre on Broadway, and Kim Kimble, the hair department head for Euphoria. I appreciated seeing these highlights of integral and valued union members. One quote that stood out to me was “Being a union member has impacted my life by giving me a sense of brotherhood. No matter where I travel to in the world, I can spot the IA bug on someone’s clothing.” - Kenny Morton. Unions and labor rights are essential to all forms of progress.
