Disney CEO Bob Chapek Met With Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Over ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill; DeSantis Didn’t Change His Mind

www.thewrap.com: Disney CEO Bob Chapek said during the company’s shareholders meeting on Wednesday that he will be meeting with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, along with other Disney LGBTQ+ leaders and cast members, in order to discuss the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill that was passed in the state legislature this week.

Yeaaaaaah, with Disney's track record of being a true rainbow capitalist country, I'm not super inclined to be sympathetic with them on this. While I 100% believe that no matter how talks went, Desantis was not going to change anything and still intended to sign the bill, it doesn't really change the fact that Disney has always been riding the line on LGBTQ+ issues, stopping just shy of ever really exploring them in any of their products, intentionally diminishing any LGBTQ+ influences in their films for the sake of sales, and donating to politicians and groups on both sides of the isle. With that last one, it's crazy to me how they can say "we don't know how this person is going to vote on this issue", but with the state of partisanship nowadays, you know damn well how likely it is that someone of a certain party will vote a certain way. Once again, I am not having any of it.

The internal memo that the CEO released is laughable too. It's all well and good to say that your content will speak louder than your words, but when your content intentionally erases LGBTQ+ influences and plots, and diminishes the work and the stories that the creatives in your company want to tell? Yeah, I don't think so.
