www.broadwayworld.com: The world-famous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will march down the streets of New York City for its 95th annual holiday celebration later this month. Broadway's best musicals will perform including SIX, Moulin Rouge! and one of Broadway's longest running hits, Wicked; along with a sneak preview of NBC's Annie Live! In addition, the show-stopping Radio City Rockettes will bring their signature magic to Herald Square.

I had forgotten about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and was delighted to hear it’s coming back! I mean, not that it actually stopped last year, for I am more than aware certain musicals were able to perform under strict COVID-19 restrictions. That being said, what delighted me the most was reading about the Broadway production of WICKED performing alongside these newer shows. At first, I was confused, why will this year's Macy’s Parade feature a show which premiered 18 years ago? It all makes sense, however, when we stop to consider this is the 95th anniversary of the Thanksgiving Day Parade and WICKED is, in fact, “one of Broadway's longest-running hits”. So, I am thrilled to hear the cast of WICKED will, once again, get the chance to perform at the parade. After all, this must be an incredibly exhilarating performance. In addition, of course, to the massive advertisement opportunity.

I get to watch the Macy’s Day Parade this year! I am from Oregon and so it comes on far too early for it to be worth getting up. I am originally from the MidWest where the time change from NYC is less brutal. But now I am on the East Coast and I am not able to go home for thanksgiving but thanks to this article I have realized I will get to have at least a little comfort from my childhood even if I don’t get to see my family. With this said, I am pretty excited to see the performances this year. One of my favorite things to see is how they have changed lyrics like how a couple of years ago Beetlejuice changed theirs just like in the cast recording. I love seeing how performances evolve in different spaces. This space happens to be a street. Another battle is always how cold it is. For some reason, it always seems to be the coldest day ever in New York on Thanksgiving. I don’t know how the performers keep warm but I’m sure they do somehow. On a different note, it would be cool to see how something like this is stage-managed.

This is great news to hear! Watching the performances at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a part of the holiday that I always participate in. Spending all day in the kitchen cooking with my mom, it provides a lot of entertainment while we peel potatoes and make pumpkin pie. I won’t be going home for Thanksgiving this year so unfortunately I won’t be able to participate in the same way, but I still plan on watching the performances. I haven’t heard much of the music from Six or Moulin Rouge! so I am excited to check out a small section of the shows. The article also mentions a performance from the Rockettes, and I always love seeing them execute their performances so well. I love Annie so it is also good to hear there will be a sneak peek of Annie Live!, I’m interested to see how it’s been adapted.

Growing up, I always loved waking up in the morning to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! My birthday falls on Thanksgiving week every year, so the whole Thanksgiving season was always a huge favorite of mine. It’s so exciting to hear that some of Broadway’s biggest musicals will be performing during the parade. Broadway shutting down during the pandemic had a huge effect on so many people from audience members to designers to performers. Being able to see these amazing musicals in the parade just gives me so much more hope that the end of this pandemic is getting closer and closer. With that being said, the article does say that there is a plan in place to follow CDC guidelines, and I hope those will be enforced. While everyone is so over this whole pandemic, it’s important to remember that Covid-19 is still a big issue, and we still need to be careful.

Having mostly not grown up in the United States, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was never really a part of my life (nor was Thanksgiving, really, not to the degree it is here in the States. It usually involved a nice dinner and a little turkey craft at school). Even when I moved back to the United States, I wasn't one for waking up to watch the parade either, but I do understand it's gravity as a unifying even for many in America. The first time I watched the parade was my freshman year of college in 2019, when I went to a friend's place for Thanksgiving instead of going home. We had hot chocolate and all sat around the television to watch the parade and the dog show and it felt very distinctly American. I'm excited to see that these musicals will be performing this year. I have not seen any of them in person and only really know Wicked, but nonetheless this is great news.

Though I have always enjoyed watching Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV, I have never wanted to actually attend. I appreciate how they adapted the parade last year due to the pandemic but I think that many people still forget that we are indeed still in a pandemic. Though I've never wanted to attend the parade in person, I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable attending the parade in person this year as I'm still hesitant about being in large groups of people whom I don't know and there's no way of knowing their vaccination status. I think that there are too many risk factors in order to have the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade back in "full form" as the article put it and I think that it's truly an inappropriate risk to take as it's outdoors and very hard to control an outdoor crowd. I think that if they had just had the parade at full form with no in-person audience, it would be a much safer choice.
