Women in lighitng!!!!! But also why do we always have Robe advertisement articles in comments? Haha. With all of this climate change reform and news I would be interested in learning more about the actual power consumption used by these productions. Can we have a class on this? I would rather learn about how to calculate these statistics than make pretty paperwork… lol the nerd in me is coming out after reading about low energy lighting equipment. Can CMU give us time to work on projects that actually have an impact on positive change in the world or should we just continue to be workaholics and pump out shows? Apologies I’m just heated because I feel like I’ve just been doing work in the school and my work hasn’t really impacted anything other than a letter grad in SIO. I somehow always turn my comments into problems I have with how the school is just producing shows, giving grades, and moving on. I wish there was more time to dive into understanding how art impacts the world. Can CMU teach a class on that? Do we have a class on how technology is advancing the world in a positive way?

This equipment sounds super cool! Especially for a touring show with a small crew lik this one, it’s easy to see how a battery powered led system has it’s perks regarding installation. And for Elle Goulding, using LEDs is an obvious choice due to her work in climate activism and the much more minimal effect LED light has on the environment. However, it’s also easy to see the drawbacks to this system. Lighting equipment that uses pixels, like this one does, can look very digital and isn’t a very attractive design option for many theatrical applications. Even with the video screen and cyc used in this scenario, it seems to me that there are better design choices to make for this show. In design, equipment is only good if it serves the design, and this specific light doesn’t seem attractive enough of a lighting option to use in many scenarios.
