Titmouse Workers Ratify IATSE’s First Animation Agreement in Canada

IATSE: On September 24, animation workers at Titmouse Vancouver made history by voting to ratify the IATSE’s first animation agreement in Canada. Ballots revealed a resounding 96.9% in support of the new agreement. The agreement will cover approximately 200 workers and also marks the first-ever contract for the recently chartered Animation Guild, IATSE Local 938.

It's great to hear that the animators in Titmouse, Canada are sticking up for themselves and forming a union to ensure their rights as workers and getting fair pay. Animators probably get the short end of the stick in terms of like, having to be just grateful to have a job like the rest of us. I know some people also associate animation as lesser than because it's mostly geared towards kids which doesn't even make sense. It sucks that somehow this is the first union created for them in their guild. From what I hear, it's a lot of unpaid work that's already credited to someone who has a name for themselves and then not speaking out in fear of not getting a job again in the industry, so it must be hard and this is a great step in the right direction to keep animators working. Maybe this means animators elsewhere will get to ensure their rights as employees and fair pay too.
