Venice VR Expanded: A Festival of Immersive Imagination

VRFocus: The Venice Film Festival has been going on for the past couple of weeks and so has Venice VR Expanded, the immersive digital edition showcasing the latest virtual reality (VR) projects from around the world. Filled with an assortment of films and interactive content it’s been one of the best examples of why a format like this works, as well as highlighting the sheer range of ideas the XR industry can offer.

I have never heard of the Venice VR festival. It seems like a cool experience with stunning visuals and great interaction. This is also a great time for VR to expand and become a more prominent part of the entertainment world. With much of entertainment not operational, VR is something that can be done from your home if you have the capabilities. Some networking mojo and broadcast capabilities can bring an entire festival, like this one, to your own VR gear with simple internet connection. VR gear is also easily available at all kinds of levels with the simple cardboard head holder and phone use as the screen to full on setups involving computers and optimized headset, hardware, stations, etc. This is something that I could totally see myself going to, experiencing a VR festival sounds great and especially so now…. Since all my other normal festivals options are not going to be happening for some time still. VR is expanding at a slow rate but these festivals in these times could be that push to drive it even further forward.
