Grab a brush, take a stand. 10 Pittsburgh Solidarity for Change murals are going up in the next month
nextpittsburgh.com: Spurred by his own experiences with police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement, the Homewood resident and executive artist of the Moving the Lives of Kids Community Mural Project is mobilizing other like-minded artists, college students and community members to design and create a series of art walls promoting unity and social justice.

I think the murals are a good idea in theory but it possibly needs some tweaking. Firstly, they look visually stunning, there is no doubt about that. The bright colors and bold letters really make that wall pop. Secondly, they spread a really perfect message. “Equality, Action, and Accountability” are three key beliefs in tie with the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as the fight against police brutality. Where it falls short in my opinion is the content. The phrase is great and all but it is missing some important things. I had previously seen a conversation about this regarding painting the Carnegie Mellon Fence on The Cut, which is: resources. The quote itself is strong on its own but it would also be helpful to add in social media pages that support blac communities, links to petitions, websites for protest organization, and other things of that nature. Other than that, I would love to get involved with one of these murals and I will definitely check out the one in Oakland nearest me.
