I’m so happy that Sydney Opera House has the money to afford a new work commissioning program. I think that, while this is a response to the COVID-19 crisis, that this is exactly what the world needs right now. We need to allow people the opportunity to build and create new art and new theatre. What I also love about this commissioning project is that there are a number of pieces that will be supporting BIPOC in the Australian theatre/opera/performance industry. I like that this is the first time that the Opera house is going to be doing some producing. The fact that this is an artist led commission, I think that this will be a really great opportunity to create a safer space of community and of art for the people. I appreciate that, as an artist, the sydney opera house was able to gather donors, partners, and anyone else willing to invest to create such a commission.
