The Theatre Times: Moses Tumwebaze is a full-time actor in the Ugandan Theatre industry. He is a member of The Ebonies, one of the few operational theatre companies in the country, who ply their trade at Theatre La Bonita (another one-of-the-few things) in the capital, Kampala. Like most theatre practitioners, Tumwebaze last stepped on stage around March in Big Jimmy, a show they had before the lockdown. ‘At first we hoped that theatres will reopen in three months,’ says Tumwebaze.

One would think that after 6 whole months, a pandemic that has impacted every single place in this world would be near it end or even better, completely been eradicated. Sadly, that is nowhere the case: the pandemic is still in effect, continuing to impact numerous places and millions of people.
That is why, reading this article did not come as a surprise to me because other than the country, nothing is different- the theater industry has been badly impacted, theater artists are out of work and this does not seem it will change for a while.
But the way Uganda is shown to be dealing with this issue just seems to be adding on to the woes of such companies and artists. With no job security, these artists are really struggling. Hopefully, things will take a turn for the better and the Ugandan Government will start to take notice of the several issues being faced by its citizens .
