Groundbreaking Weekend of Women+ allows space to learn and heal

UNCSA: “I am continuously amazed how often I have to stop myself and remember that it wasn’t until my late 30s that I got to experience rooms like this,” said Nicola Rossini, as she addressed a theater full of students, faculty and staff during the recent Weekend of Women+ at UNCSA.

WOW. I am honestly in awe of this event and projects within it. This is something I think we should model an event like this at CMU, not even just in School of Drama, but in CFA as a whole. Since the CFA Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, & Climate has started meeting this semester, I’ve been trying to come up with ideas that’ll actually bring the schools together through an event, and THIS is spot on. Bringing in industry professionals to give insight on how the field is currently operating and providing some ideas on how the future generations in the arts can change these current norms. The community projects with the students was so heartwarming and is a very successful effort in bringing student experiences together. I hope the Women+ event continues to happen for UNCSA and maybe Carnegie Mellon can learn some holes in our actions at the moment and model something after this.
