I really appreciate that the ESTA offers draft standards up for public review before release. In the entertainment industry, there are usually twenty ways to reach any given goal. Some are safer, more efficient, or more complex than others. By giving the public access to the draft standard before it is released, it allows newcomers and grizzled vets of the entertainment industry alike to comment on how stuff is typically done, what can be done better, and why the standard may or may not be the 'best' way to accomplish its goal. For example, with draft standard BSR E1.21, Entertainment Technology - Temporary Structures Used for Technical Production of Outdoor Entertainment Events, there are lot of ways to build a tent or other temporary structure. I have seen my fair share of these, and some are totally whack- looking, even if they can probably do their job. Standardizing how we build these structures is in the best interest of everyone, as it makes outdoor events safer for stagehands and audience members alike.
