Star Trek: Discovery writing staff loses famed novelist Walter Mosley over anonymous complaint

For me, providing an opinion on the subject of this article is quite a challenge, as there are many complex layers to the issue at hand. For my own opinion, I feel Walter Mosley should not have been fired for the use of the slur. Mosley, as a black man, used the word in the context of a personal recollection of police brutality he faced. Mosley was not using the word directly at another human being to offend them, but was using it to highlight the horrible nature police officers engage in and the racial injustice he has experienced. While co-workers feelings should be taken into account, if they were made uncomfortable by the use of the word, they should have asked him personally to stop instead of making an effort to take the man’s job away. If Mosley was of another race or used the word at a colleague, it would be another story. I believe that Mosley was the one wronged in this innocent and hopefully he will find success in another way.
