Grit and heart: Arnel Sancianco draws on both for his evocative theater sets

Fall Theater and Dance | Chicago Reader: Back when he was an aspiring actor in the University of California-Irvine's undergrad theater program, Arnel Sancianco joined some classmates at an In-N-Out Burger. "And one of my friends, jokingly, with all love, was like, 'It's gonna be really hard for you, Arnel, because they don't write roles for Asians.'"

While this article may seem inconsequential, I think it's crucial to put emphasis on the work being done by young designers just because we're doing incredible things! Yes, we could continue to talk about the work being done by middle aged white designers like David Korins, but I don't want to. The picture of Sancianco's design for Lottery Day is gorgeous and shows such clear collaboration between him and the lighting designer! Which I love! It's just so exciting to me to see artists that are typically forgotten about acknowledged and celebrated!
