Managing Projects on Asana; Mobile vs. Web Experience

AMT Lab @ CMU: Founded in 2008 and launched publicly in 2011, Asana is a website and mobile application that gives users a single medium to create, view, and collaborate on tasks and projects. Asana allows users to designate tasks to team members, provide real-time status updates, create a timelines or calendars for project goals, and form group chats for messaging team members.

I used Asana over the summer with a Stage Manager during prep week to make sure that all the documents were created, printed, and placed in the appropriate place. Based on my past experience, this article makes the software sound more user friendly than I felt it was. To me Asana felt like a digital to-do list. Though we could put documents into Asana, it was hard to download them, change them, and re-upload them. We opted to use Dropbox concurrently instead of putting the documents in Asana. We were a 2 person team, so we did not use the chat options and instead opted to text or email, but I don’t remember that being an option. I had no particular problems with Asana, however it did not feel particularly useful. I would love to try the Premium Version to see what it brings to the table, because the free version was not something I would be interested in using again.
