Pro Tool Reviews: Finding the best Makita tools at STAFDA 2018 wasn’t a difficult chore – they introduced more than 40 new tools! The challenge was just figuring out which ones were our favorites. Of course, there’s not time and space to break down every single one in this article, so here are our top picks from this year’s event.

STAFDA, or the Specialty Tools and Fasteners Distributor’s Association, recently had their big convention in Austin, Texas. At the show, all big companies from across the world come to show off all of their new products that they will be releasing soon. Makita seems to have caught some people's eyes this year with a line of over 40 new products to be released in the not too distant future. First on that list included a new circular saw blade. While this may seem like nothing, saw blades make or break your saw. Even with an amazing saw, without a good blade your saw will cut slower and bog down more easily. Next is a new and improved metal cutting circular saw. Some improvements include it being larger and now having a side battery slot to improve the overall size and handling of the tool. Another is a new impact driver. With four different speed settings this tool is super versatile. There are so many more awesome new tools from Makita and I can't wait to get my hands on them.

So it seems like Makita is finally getting their space on the tool shelf. For so long it seemed like Makita was just sitting in the corner trying to sell cheap tools that did an okay job for the at-home garage kind of builder. That being said, the new line they released at STAFDA intrigued me in some ways, especially with the cordless chop saw. Along with the chop saw, they released an impact driver that looks very much like the new Milwaukee, a couple of circular saws for both metal and wood, and a rebar tying tool which seemed to be the most outlandish one of the group. While this is not everything they released, it was the best selection but together in this article. I am excited to see Makita finally getting serious about the tools they develop and I can not wait to try out some of them.

Makita has notoriously made very powerful tools that are very versatile and compatible with the other product in the Makita family. After reading this article I really gravitated toward the rebar tying tool simply because I have never seen or worked with one before. Obviously, the theatrical applications are pretty limited for this tool, but it is still very cool to see the different cordless tools that are on the market today. I remember a time when the only battery operated tool that was on the market was a drill and now every tool, including so bench op tools, are available in a cordless option. It is also very evident that cordless is the way of the future given the tools that are on display in the article. I fully expect this trend to continue through the tool manufacturing industry and I’m sure as battery technology continues to improve the same will be true for these tools. All I can say is, I hope that by the time I have to buy these tools the technology is perfected.
