Trio works behind scenes to ensure success of G.I. Northwest musical

theindependent.com: While many Grand Island Northwest High School students will be on stage during the production of “High School Musical 2” this week, three students will be working backstage to make sure the show runs smoothly.

Marcus Eriksen, a sophomore from Grand Island, Ryan Zimmerman, a senior from St. Libory, and Ethan Ruff, a sophomore from Grand Island, are three stage hands who are helping with Northwest’s production of “High School Musical 2.”

These stage managers sound like they work great with each other! It seems like for a show with a lot of moving parts, multiple stage managers are necessary. But I've only heard of having multiple assistant stage managers before. I’ve never heard of having multiple stage managers for a high school show before, but I also worked at a small theatre in my high school.
Re-reading the article, it seems like one of them- Zimmerman- does take on a larger, more broad role, and the two others act as assistant stage managers.
In a professional environment, it would be interesting to see how multiple stage managers would take charge. As a sound designer, I relied on my stage manager as a connection between myself and the actors. With multiple to report to, I’d worry about making sure the information gets passed on correctly.
The backstage crew is divided into many specific roles to ensure that productions run smoothly. I’m impressed that these students are able to work as a trio in a management position directing an entire crew!
