Disney is bringing ‘immersive’ Marvel lands to its theme parks

The Verge: Disney’s theme parks are about to get a lot more Marvel superheroes. After the successful launch of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! ride last year, the company has announced that it will be bringing more Marvel properties to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, along with expanded experiences at both Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland.

This sounds so so awesome. I think Disney could do a lot to make this space really exceptional and it could boost their yearly numbers by a lot. I, personally, love seeing imaginary worlds and getting to walk around and find new things that were actually used in the world of the movie. Although there may not be many rides in this new area, there will probably be a lot to do. From food to interacting with characters, people will take their kids there and hopefully be able to see the “workshops” that exist from the Avengers to Black Panther, there are so many ways that Disney could innovate the theme park experience for this. Although, it is at the cost of the world of it’s a Bug’s Life which has always been a classic, but Disney has to keep up with what is popular because times are changing and so is what inspires children. Instead of Cinderella, people like me, are finding inspiration from Moana for going out there and saving her island on her own.

Before thinking of this venture as a capitalist atrocity committed by Disney, one has to remember that everything about Disneyland, themed entertainment, and amusement parks is a wholly capitalist idea and venture. That is exactly the reason why I am in support of this idea for a park like Disneyland. I actually had the chance to go to Disneyland in Anaheim over the break, and I was surprised as to how sensory and immersive a place it can be, even as an adult (sort of). The addition of the Marvel universe can not only bring in tons of new jobs, it also creates a creative venture for every type of designer to create a world that is mature enough to attract the older teenage crowd and also please the very small children at these parks. One of the best parts of going to Disneyland is comparing the classic fantasy worlds to newer lands like Tomorrowland and now, the Marvel universe, you're able to see a clear progression of thought and creativity within the world done in a full day of attractions.

These attractions sound really exciting and like a great way to encourage fans of superhero movies to go to many different theme parks. From the article, I have a hard time understanding what makes the these “immersive experiences” different from other parts of Disney where you can see costumed characters walking around. However, it since Disney is very secretive with their information it is impossible to tell exactly what these will be. What I find interesting about this article is how it seems to swing in tone from sounding excited about the Marvel themes area to slightly critical. They describe the actions as exploiting for a profit and states that this area will probably be less creative than other open aspects. While this is kinda true, the seems like weird statements for this author to make. No matter what, the author is most likely right that Disney will continue to add Marvel elements and attractions to their theme parks.

Disney has been doing an amazing job with the marvel movies since they came to own them and I have been impressed as every movie seems to be getting better and better especially as it ramped up to these Avengers wars that are going on. They have been so well done that movie theaters have decided to do marathons where they will play every movie in order of date leading up to the release of this next Avengers movie. On the other hand, they also incorporated these titles into their park with guardians of the galaxy which I have only heard great things of. What they plan on doing with their park as the future comes is going to be amazing if they keep the quality of which they do their movies in par with the creation of these additions to their parks. The Star Wars hotel alone was already intriguing because if they can really pull of a futuristic Star Wars looking hotel I would want to stay there just to see everything. I’m sure the screens are all going to be of some sort of holographic look and an entire theme throughout the whole of the hotel is just going to be astonishing. That is just the new hotel though, adding these attraction is very exciting because they are creating a new park essentially as it has been generally the same for some odd years till they added their guardians of the galaxy ride. I just can’t wait to see what they end up with and might actually get some sort of pass as it might finally be worth it with all the new stuff they will have.

As a natural born Floridian, Disney could have been considered my first second home. I would say for 2/3’s of my life I knew the Disney World parks like the back of my hand. I distinctly remember saying to my mom, “no we don’t need a map, I know where I’m going.” And with confidence leading my parents to exactly where I wanted to go and ride. But I have notices just how fast things have started to change at the parks. I have only been away from the parks for maybe 2 years and I feel like I would not recognize it now. I think this is a great thing and a sad fact all at the same time. I have so many childhood memorizes at the 4 Disney parks , from all my birthdays and friends and families birthdays. It was the place we always wanted to go. To me, it truly was the Happiest place on Earth. As I get older I completely understand why it needs to keep up with the times, but I will always cherish what it was and what it means to me. It also allows me to be excited to go back and experience new things, so overall I am excited about all these new changes.

I ADORE Avengers Campus. I recently visited over winter break on my trip to California, and it was just as fun as I remember. Avengers Campus has a restaurant themed after the concept of shrinking and growing from Ant Man, an interactive ride called Spider Man WEB Slingers, a drop ride themed after Guardians of the Galaxy, and perhaps most exciting and immersive, scattered performances by superheroes scattered throughout the day. This is what really made me fall in love with the land. When just passing through, guests get interactions with characters they would otherwise never see literally anywhere in the world (other than a movie theater.) Of course the Imagineering and the design of the land is practically flawless, but the performers really sell it and immerse guests. I believe they have a plan to open another ride in the near future in the land, and I am so excited to experience it. I can’t wait to go back.
