I feel as though Cirque, any of their shows, holds the importance of rigging to the highest standard. They have to, otherwise people will die. Unlike the Spiderman incidents that came before, rigging of the performers has to be tight and perfect and every little thing matters. They are still investigating what exactly happened in this case, but for a trained performer, and a Cirque performer for fifteen years, this is most definitely a loss of importance to the group. I’m unsure about Cirque’s contracts, but I bet they talk about the liabilities that are possible and what would happen in the event of a tragic incident, it’s just unfortunate that they may actually have to use it. I was surprised to learn that so very few deaths have actually occurred with Cirque, but I do suppose that that’s part of what makes Cirque so good, is their way to effortlessly make these incredibly hard moves look easy, and to do it well.
