CMU grad Arica Jackson makes her national tour debut in ‘Waitress’

New Pittsburgh Courier: When Arica Jackson started performing classes at Carnegie Mellon University, she wanted to learn how to act, and how to have a voice on stage. She wanted to learn how to freely express her truth and tell her story to other people. Gradually, that idealistic dream turned into wanting to do performances and art that exposes people to different perspectives. Jackson loves shows that tackle social injustices and spark change.

When first meeting Arica, I knew she was something special. Then I got to see her in ragtime and I knew she was a star in the making. Of course she books a national tour the second she graduates college. I actually saw her in the city over the summer really quick and it was nice to see her! It is also nice to see recent grads booking high profile shows. Its inspring to see that people will book work right after college. Another cool thing is that this was Arica last stop. She is ending the tour early to be in a new broadway show. It is so cool to see people you know working on Broadway. The class that just graduated has some many people working on High profile shows form lighting to dramaturg to Disney to Broadway. I cant wait to see how my class does once we graduate.
