What happens at the next big music festival? Austin ups security

www.usatoday.com: fter the Las Vegas shooting, security at musical festivals is under the magnifying glass.

This Friday, all eyes will turn to Austin City Limits, one of the largest music festivals in the United States.

Austin's famous three-day outdoor fest announced they are offering refunds to ticketholders uncomfortable with attending following the deadly mass shooting at Sunday's country music concert in Las Vegas.

Being from Texas, I am very familiar with this music festival. I have been seeing several snap chats all day of friends, family, and even former teachers at the event. It is sad that today, we have to worry about acts of terror at any place of gathering. Just today I went to see a show at a small theater and the worry crossed my mind. What would I do? How would I hide. How will the act of terror be stopped. It just plain sucks. I think it is great that the festival is offering free refunds for ticket holders. I know that my thoughts are probably shared with a lot of those wanting to go to the festival so it is nice that they have that option. I know that close to the time of the Boston bombing there was a small scare in which I believe was caught before anything serious happened. Overall, I think there really is so much you can do. Especially with the gun laws in Texas. I think the best thing the festival can do would be to make plans, plans for everything that could go wrong. That way, they can handle situations in the most efficient ways.

This article is chilling. People wanted to go to Austin City Limits so badly that they paid close to five hundred dollars for one ticket, and now some feel so afraid that something like what happened in Las Vegas would happen again to them. The fact that someone would give up an experience they value so highly due to fear is unsettling but, simultaneously very understandable. If I were going to Austin City Limits, I would be afraid. I would definitely rethink going. It seems like there is no safe place to be anymore. The police chief in the article encouraged people to continue to do what you enjoy, but that’s exactly what the festival-goers in Las Vegas were doing when over five hundred of them were hurt or killed. In this time with the terrorism that is present in our society, people are questioning what is worth potentially risking their lives for.
