This article is extremely intriguing! I never knew that there was a community out there that appreciated signs like this, let alone that they even had an award ceremony for the best ones. After looking through some of the pictures of the winners, I began thinking about all the signs that I see everyday and how unappealing and how undesigned they feel. It then led me to realize that we see so many signs a day that they all blend together, but signs like the ones that won awards change that. I wonder how effective they are for their business and how much extra traffic they may bring into the business.
I guess there is something for everyone in this world. USSC sounds so official, but its just a sign council. Graphic design is extremely important for any business and signage is something that people associate with companies. If a sign or logo is poorly done and not memorable this effects the way in which customers associate with that business. I would have never guessed there would be an organization that is the largest association of independent sign shops in the world. Their website is packed with information and is very exciting for people who like signs.
I never knew that there was an entire council devoted to signs! Obviously graphic design is a really big thing, but it actually makes me really happy that there are people that are so interested in this specific subset. It's definitely a very important part of a business's image, one that people often ignore. I wonder whether these people make their living entirely off of making signs or if they have larger companies based around graphic design or advertising. I also wonder how the sign design process works- is it part of a larger design process for the business's overall branding, or is it an independent process that just tries to incorporate previously existing aspects of the designs?
