lifehack.org: Communication is an integral part of any work or life situation. Learning to be an effective communicator is a valuable productivity tool, one that is unfortunately commonly overlooked. The consequences of poor communication can be disastrous; wasted time, hurt feelings, misunderstandings, unproductive meetings, ineffective teamwork, and lack of progress towards goals. Cirque du Soleil's 'Iris' clears Kodak Theatre for Oscars

latimes.com: In the two weeks it took Cirque du Soleil crew members to strike the sets, pack the costumes and remove every trace of evidence that the company and its resident show, "Iris," ever existed at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre, the most pressing questions didn't concern logistics or disassembly. After all, the $100-million production had been conceived with the knowledge that come each February of its anticipated 10-year stay, the show would have to decamp to make room for the Oscars. "The plan has been in place for months," says "Iris" technical director Kevin Kiely, surveying the organized chaos taking place on the Kodak's stage early in the moving process. "The biggest concern hasn't been executing the plan. What everyone's really wondering is: When are they taking out the coffee makers?"

Can I Be Happy as an Investment Banker?

Study Hacks: The following question came from a sophomore finance major at a well-known state university: I have read and heard that entry-level investment bankers have to work long hours doing meaningless grunt work assigned by bosses (sometimes portrayed as evil)…How can your career craftsman philosophy be applied to high stakes fields such as finance? This reader believed in my career philosophy and was perfectly happy to sidestep the flawed idea that he should “follow his passion.” But the option of heading into investment banking — a popular choice for his major at his university — was making him nervous. The requirements for standing out in this field seemed brutal and he wasn’t inspired by the rewards you can obtain for banking stardom (more respect and money in exchange for more work hours and stress). I told him not to become an investment banker.
